Walking Will Benefit Almost Anyone

August 19th, 2008

Although walking will benefit almost anyone, someone with high levels of fitness probably wouldn’t gain that much. For someone who doesn’t exercise that much, a half hour walking program every day would soon see results in breathing, slower heartbeat to name but a few. If you have been walking fast, walk slowly or stretch for a few minutes to cool down.

So you do not become bored, it always worth finding different locations to walk or varying the routes and if at all possible ask someone to join you as the time will pass faster and it will be more enjoyable. Some of the most popular endurance exercises are stationary bike riding, walking and rowing.

People looking to lose weight can also find walking a great way to do this without having the expense of joining a gym or expensive clothing and it is something that almost everyone can do naturally. Of course if you can combine your walking with another activity where other aspects of fitness can be achieved then you will benefit even more.

Two other benefits of walking are the cost, if you don’t have a great budget (but do get a good set of walking boots or similar,) and the fact that it is considered a low impact activity do should not damage the joints. In fact the American Heart Association recommends that you should start by walking for only five minutes per day if you haven’t been exercising for a while, gradually building to that 30 minutes per day mentioned earlier.

As a complete method to stay fit or lose a few pounds plus the health benefits involved, walking just can’t be beaten. Some people swear by using a treadmill though as they can experience a variety of walking conditions without leaving their house.

Treadmills are still the most popular exercise machine out there, but not everyone can use a treadmill safely, especially when it is to be used for running because of the often high impact exercise that is required. Because the belt is motorized and not regulated by your own walking pace it allows for a huge degree of versatility whereby the speed and difficulty can be adjusted and the use of pre-set programs can increase your fat burning or improve your cardiovascular health.

Smooth Treadmills are the #1 seller and manufacturer of fitness equipment on the Internet. They offer exclusive Smooth brand of treadmills, home gyms and elliptical trainers.

When you look for a treadmill, make sure it has a powerful motor and good range of height adjustment and has a sturdy feel when you step onto it. The treadmill works for a lot of people who like to work out in the privacy of their own home.

Ultimately it is the convenience of a treadmill that is hard to beat because if even if you only have ten minutes to spare you can use it so it means you can walk at any time you feel like it.

Buying Home Fitness Equipment?

August 19th, 2008

It is not surprising with our rushed but at the same time sedentary lives that the use of home fitness equipment has increased over recent years. Unfortunately many would be fitness enthusiasts make the mistake of buying the wrong type of equipment because they haven’t thought about what they require; there is an enormous range and the last thing you want is to buy the wrong piece. Don’t believe in everything the commercials tell you about the equipment as some may seem easy to use on television but that does not mean it will be for you. It is always worth just stepping back and making sure you have the right reasons for buying fitness equipment.

No-one wants to waste money no matter who they are and cross trainers, elliptical trainers and Smooth Treadmills can be expensive; ensure it is something that will get plenty of use and perhaps will help you with other interests you may have. The problem is that buying the equipment is the easy bit it is actually using it that takes determination; you want to know that you will be able to use it and it will perform as expected. Make sure you can afford it and don’t be fooled into the thought that you will definitely use something because you spent a great deal of money on it; the cost is not the reason it will be used, whatever you may think. Whatever budget you set yourself to spend on it, just make sure it will be up to the job you want it to do because although cost may be an issue, quality is also important.

Although this is not always true and you might find yourself buying expensive equipment that is of poor quality or a cheaper alternative that is actually made to a high standard. Massive savings can be made buying nearly new sports equipment from the classifieds so take a look at these first. Sometimes you will actually get a better deal buying when the sales start or when there is ex-demonstration home fitness equipment ready to go on sale and they want to sell off the older stock. Obviously before all this you need to check your available space as there is no point buying a beautiful, all-singing-all-dancing piece of kit that won’t fit in the house.

It is great if you have a ready made room to place it in but if not, it is worth considering the garage which has become a favorite for many home gym installations. Some apparatus comes with a health warning so you would be wise to have a physical examination before you buy, especially if there are hereditary medical problems in the family. Whilst you are trying the fitness apparatus out ensure that it doesn’t cause any discomfort because if it does you will refrain from using it. One way to get around this is to join a fitness centre and get used to using certain pieces of apparatus first; this should give you a good idea if it will be more cost effective to buy your own home fitness equipment. If you really can’t make up your mind, take advice from a fitness instructor who will better equipped to deal with this type of enquiry.
