Exercise For Your Health And Longevity

August 19th, 2008

The word exercise often brings up thoughts of endless cardio and pumping weights in order to lose the unwanted excess pounds that seem to be hanging around our bodies. Everyday individuals get excited and jump on the weight loss and fitness bandwagon only to get discouraged because things are not happening as quickly as we would like.

What would happen if we instead focused on how a change in diet and physical activity would impact our over all health. Physical activity has so many more benefits than are often overlooked because we as a society are so focused on the scale and clothing size. If over all health and longevity became our focus our weight and waist size would fall into place on its own.

An important bonus to working out on a regular basis is bone health, most of us do not think twice about the health and strength of our bones, that will however change when you find yourself laying on the floor with a shattered hip bone. We often take our bones for granted until a health issue sneaks up and blind sides us. Exercise is key to the maintenance of your bone health. Any activities that put stress on your bones by working those muscles that attach to them signal your body to maintain these bones. Disuse causes atrophy or as the saying goes, use it or loss it. As we age this becomes increasingly important.

Maintaining muscle mass as we age is also important, and again in order to maintain our muscles we must we working them. Muscles themselves have many benefits including: increase metabolism, help maintain posture, and help to maintain balance and stability.

Regular physical activity also helps alleviate joint pain. If you are currently overweight or obese as you lose weight less and less stress is put on your joints and at the same time as you exercising the joints themselves will become stronger. The muscles around your joints become stronger, your posture improves and greatly balance is achieved.

The health of your heart and cardiovascular system as a whole will improve substantially once you commit to getting active. Your heart because it is a muscle will get stronger and your lungs will become more efficient at bring in oxygen and releasing carbon dioxide. As a whole your cardiovascular system improves as exercising on a regular basis will help keep your blood vessels open and free of clogs, which in turn helps to correct high blood pressure, high cholesterol and prevent heart attacks and strokes.

On an emotional and physical level you will have increased energy, be more focused and alert, and have a greater sense of overall peace and relaxation. The endorphins that are released during physical activity have a tremendous positive effect on over all mood as they directly affect the pleasure centers of the brain.

Exercise has been proven to have an over whelming number of benefits for the body including fighting every thing from cancer to dementia. Those individuals who focus on diet and exercise for the sake of their over all health have a much better chance of making permanent changing to their live styles.

Massage Therapy Grows as Tool to Pain Management

April 6th, 2008

According to a survey conducted by the American Massage Therapy
Associatoin (AMTA), more people are receiving massage therapy for
medical purposes than for relaxation. The survey also revealed that
baby boomers have more massages than those who are younger, and are
more likely to receive those massages for medical reasons.

“It’s
no surprise that people are turning to massage therapy to improve their
wellness,” said Dr. Leena S. Guptha, president of AMTA. “It’s a proven
way to manage pain, recover from injury, and improve one’s quality of
life, often reducing the need for medications or invasive treatments.”

Geologix Inc. manufactures spa, massage, skincare, and therapeutic pain relief products using a
proprietary formula featuring 34 natural minerals contained in the
ancient sea water from the famous Michigan Basin, 1400 feet beneath
Mount Clemens, Michigan — a concentration of minerals higher than that
found in any known body of water in the world. The company’s Mineral
Essentials line focuses on spa, skin care, and massage products to
moisturize and provide anti-aging protection for great skin, while their

AcheAway Therapeutic Health Products provide an alternative pain relief
solution for aches and pains associated with arthritis, muscle fatigue
and a variety of other conditions.

Anti Aging Treatment

July 25th, 2007

Everyone ages and it is a natural phenomenon but no one want to show there age. Anti-aging treatments are available to help you appear several years younger than you actually are. It is possible to look and feel younger in just a few days with the proper anti-aging treatment.

The first step in starting any type of anti aging treatment is to consult a knowledgeable skin care expert. Just going out and purchasing anti-aging skin care product off the shelf may give you some of the desired results but to obtain the maximum benefits you should first consult skin care expert. A skin care expert can evaluate the type of skin you have, determine the best course of action, and finally suggest the best products to use to get the maximum results.

The cause of the anti-aging treatment will depend largely on what type of treatment you need and if multiple treatments will be needed. For example; a surgical face peal, a procedure that removes the top layer of your skin from you face, will cost more that a chemical face peal. Using an exfoliate will cost less than a chemical face peal.

Shopping for an anti-aging treatment on a budget may not produce very effect results or the results may not last very long. Always check out the person who is administering the anti-aging treatment to make sure he or she is a professional. You should also use the Internet to determine if there are any hazards associated with the type of treatment you have elected to use. Wikipedia-org is a good place to start on the Internet. This website supplies an abundance of information on just about anything you want to know about and it does not try and sell you anything.

Most anti-aging clinics will give you a free assessment. After the clinic’s assessment you can determine the type and cost of the treatment you need. Since most medical insurance companies will not pay for any anti-aging treatment you will need to pay for the treatment out of your own pocket…Anti Aging Treatment continue…

3 Simple Steps to Wellness

July 17th, 2007

We all know what way we are heading and whether we like it or not we are all going to die at some point. Since the dawn of man (or short thereafter) we have tried to keep death and old age at a distance. An ancient myth talked about the fountain of eternal youth and similar stories have been told time and time again.

Stories about how to keep one from growing old have passed from generation to generation and even today we are spending billions and billions trying to fight it. Some do it by surgery and some try to cover it up with cosmetics. But solutions are only temporary and expensive and I believe that there are better ways to go about it.

I believe that there are a few essential elements to a happy, energetic and perfect life when you are getting closer to your life’s end. Several independent studies have shown these to be true time and time again.

1) Make sure that your body has the best possible building blocks for its cells regeneration which takes place every single day. A cell creates a copy of it self and as we all know it is not possible to create a copy that is better than the original and therefore we need to take extremely good care of your body’s cells. The regeneration of cells is actually the very thing of “growing old”. Each new copy is a little bit less than the previous one and over time we get “older”. Our muscles become weaker, our faces become wrinkled and our organs are not performing at their best.

Therefore it is so critically important that you get good nutrition as soon as possible. Don’t put it out by saying “I’ll start eating healthy tomorrow”. News Flash – Tomorrow Never Comes! For the sake of your own wellbeing you need to start today.

2) You might have guessed it already. Exercise is also a very important part of maintaining your health and vitality which is what keeps the feeling of aging at a distance. I’m not talking extensive exercise where you run marathons or swim for miles and miles. Most people think that it requires a lot of time an effort to do the exercise but in reality that is just a bad excuse. The only thing is takes is consistency and 15-30 minutes a day. Go for a 30 minute walk around the block or run in the park for just 15 minutes. You don’t even have to do it full speed. The trick is to do it daily.

If you haven’t exercised for years then don’t worry. Start with 5 minutes a day and slowly increase. Just 5 minutes a day and EVERY DAY will do wonders for your health if you haven’t done any exercise for years.

3) Final step of the three step process is to enjoy life and have gratitude. Be grateful for what you already have and start focusing on it consistently. By shifting your focus from what you don’t have to the things that you already enjoy will give you an immense amount of energy and a state of happiness.

Have a look at the old folks that are always smiling. What do you thing they do on a daily basis? Do you think they focus on the things in the past that didn’t work or are they grateful for the life they have lived and the life that they are still living? Studies have shown that the people that get to live the longest are people that have been happy on an ongoing basis. They enjoy life and therefore they aren’t letting it go that easily so to speak.

Follow these three steps and you will experience a change in energy, emotion and daily happiness. You will keep the aging process at a much slower pace and you will live a life filled with all the good things that a life should have.

Ways to Ease Pain While Aging

July 15th, 2007

As we get older, especially over 50, we are finding they are experiencing more aches and pains than when they were younger. It takes longer to recover from physical exercise, heal after an injury, or recover from a serious illness. I personally can exercise every day as my recovery time only allows me to exercise every other day, otherwise I hurt all the time. Pain management is becoming a priority for those who are in the middle age years. You may be experiencing symptoms of arthritis, or other chronic pain. Your health care provider is required to ask patients about pain levels and the intensity of their pain and then treatment is determined with feedback from the patient.

Pain is more than just an uncomfortable feeling or sensation in your body. Pain will keep you from healing properly after surgery and have a huge impact on your quality of life. Managing pain is important if you want to preserve a good quality of life. The patient has to be very active in their pain management and help decide on the course of treatment for the pain management. It used to be that the patient did not have any input on the intensity of the pain and how much they could tolerate.

New federal standards now require health care professionals to ask about the pain level and the intensity of the pain before they decide how to treat their pain. If pain management is not done on an individual basis from the beginning of treatment to discharge, a hospital, clinic, or nursing home can lose their accreditation.

When Should You Start Treating Your Skin For Wrinkles?

June 28th, 2007

When do you start protecting yourself from signs of aging and wrinkles? Most experts recommend protection for the skin starting in infancy. As you approach young adulthood, it is even more important to protect your skin and life choices you make in your early 20’s and 30’s can affect the way your skin ages and wrinkles when you are older.

This is a period of your life when you should take especially good care of your skin. Avoiding sun damage is one of the keys to preventing premature aging and severe wrinkles. Your choices involving tobacco, alcohol and drugs also affect the way your skin ages. The beginnings of fine lines and small wrinkles are not uncommon in young adults. Collagen damage can result in molecular changes in the elasticity of our skin. Letting it go is not an option because problems can be more severe in the future.

It is a good time to start taking small steps to keep your face looking young, fresh and smooth. Use a good moisturizer lotion or cream should be part of your daily routine. Prevention is the most important step in preventing wrinkles and aging, as you grow older. You may want to start using creams or lotions that contain alpha hydroxy acids, as they appear to slow the process of aging by stimulating new collagen production.

If you are already noticing small lines and wrinkles there are several treatments that can help fight them. Soft tissue fillers are one way of reducing these skin problems. They are usually fat or collagen taken from other areas of your body and used to fill in small areas on your face. These injections will smooth and plump areas of the face that are causing concern.

Another treatment that is popular is Botox. This wrinkle reducing agent is injected in small amounts into muscles in the face. This stops them from pulling on other areas of the face and creating wrinkles. Botox is normally used for treating fine lines around the eyes, forehead, nose, and eyebrows. This therapy is considered effective and safe with no healing time.

You may also consider a mild chemical peeling to take care of problems that have already started while in your 20’s. A solution is used to remove discolored, dull, or aging skin and allows fresh new skin to form.

Something else to consider if you are woman of this age is pregnancy and birth control. Pregnancy is stressful on the entire body and many times the stress shows up on the skin. Stretch marks, varicose, and spider veins are all associated with pregnancy. There are ways to deal with these problems. Pregnancy produces hormonal changes in the body that can result in temporary skin discoloration and a flare up of acne.

Birth control methods may make the body react in the same way. Chemical peeling, laser treatment, and pulsed light treatments may be used to improve these conditions. Some women have skin that looks perfect and radiant while pregnant only to have it revert to cases of acne and dullness after giving birth.

Fight Aging with Vitamins

June 14th, 2007

Researchers in search for the fountain of youth keep coming back to one fact: you are what you eat. What you eat has a tremendous impact not only on your health but also on your life span.

Aging that goes on inside your body has far more reaching consequences than a few wrinkles and gray hairs that seem to pop up over night. Sheldon Hendler, MD, Ph.D. says that much of the internal damage that accumulates over a lifetime, and the diseases that go with it, may be linked to mischievous molecules inside us called “free radicals”.

Free radicals are created during the normal process of metabolism, cells produce unstable oxygen molecules that damage cells. As we get older the human body produces more and more of these free radicals.

These free radicals are molecules that have unpaired electrons that seem to attach most readily to electrons in fat molecules. A free radicals attack on the cells could kill or severely damage them, leaving them vulnerable to diseases commonly associated with the aging process…Anti Aging continue…
